Horatio Hawk has stolen a magical artifact from a Mayan temple, and it is up to Mitch (with the help of his best friend Otis, and mentor Dr.A) to stop him before he can escape!

I created the Mayan Mystery as a retro-inspired metroidvania with an emphasis on exploration. Over 100 rooms, 6 weapons, 5 bosses and hordes of enemies throughout, this game is sure to test your mettle!

* Included with each copy of the game is an instruction booklet, full of artwork and top secret information!

I love metroidvania-style games.

There's something off with the controls - jumping is not always responsive. Seems like a quarter of the time the monkey doesn't jump on command. I set up an Xpadder profile, which seemed to help a little. Still a bit frustrating.

It really gives the feeling like you play one of those old DOS games.
But why is the resolution so freaking small? That's really annoying :(

I have this one, but never played it. I think I will install it and share my impressions here.

ah there's that jump issue that everyone's mentoining...
other than that the game is still awesome, It was worth the buying! 8-)

actually, it feels a lot like earlier VGA DOS games like Jill of the Jungle, with the lo-res but colorful graphics & GM music. (I think it's general midi, not sure...) it's a great nostalgia! :)

OK, I re-installed and played it for a little while, I have to admit I've been playing more than I intended, but anyway, I must say it is nothing special. A good game, sure, nice levels and all, it's similar to some classics, as Tazi and others say, but it has nothing in top of that. I mean, there's no twist that make it a 2012 game with a 1990 look, it's simply a 1990 game. May be I haven't found that something special, if it exists, I wish to know.

I liked this game. I agree that jump being bound to up was really akward but I play with a gamepad+joy2key so I just bound it differently on my gamepad and it was a non issue. This was a game that I think a lot of people were harsh on but I really enjoyed. I could tell the developer was channeling the memory of Metroid in a big way but it also reminded me of Jill of the Jungle a little bit. I hope this guy keeps making games because this one was rad.

that's true, but even in the nineties there were dozens of games which ones suffered from bad level/game design, and despite some hiccups, this game does it well, and definitely worth a couple of bucks, at least for me. 8-)

one bug I found is about the jump. before I got the 1st jump power up (dunno yet, if there's a 2nd), I was able to jump multiple times by just holding the jump key. After the power up it works like the jump in any other games = one jump/one button press.
