Whew, let me just say, I really regret this purchase. Have not enjoyed really any of the game so far.

Feels like a very generic corridor shooter, with some shoddy animations and fairly low graphical fidelity. I'm no stickler for graphics, but for a $50 AAA release, I expect some pretty good-looking stuff. Also, I seem to have a problem with screen-tearing, despite V-sync being enabled. The game runs smooth enough, and I cap at 60 running on max settings. But really, the story is bland, the characters fail to illicit any sort of emotional response (or even interest) from me. A few minor erros will be patched, I realize this (it is first day, after all), but your still left with a generic, ugly shooter. And patches can't fix generic, brudda.

So, anyone else here pick this game up yet? If not, lemme just say, I wouldn't advise it.

Heh, spent about 30 minutes ingame so far.

After reading the Steam "players" reviews i was really afraid of my 25$ i spent on this game :D

To be honest it is a letdown for an AvP fan- but i wouldn`t give it a bashing like the one that is currently ongoing.
Just another poor arcade console-like game in my book.

5/10 (i like AvP and Aliens genre)? maybe more if i like the multiplayer :P

Ah, right. Forgot I can't not like a game... Sorry, will be sure to remember!

EDIT: And I know what vid you're talking about. I agree with TB most of the time, but I would have to disagree with his point. Obviously he's trying to get the gamer's a better deal, but do we always need it? Think about THQ, they just went under. Pre-orders guarantee a purchase, and they often have a bonus, which helps guarantee that purchase, which helps the company. I like Gearbox for the most part, why not? I won't say I regret the purchase, but I'm not going to bash it and say it's the worst game evr. It's not, but it definitely didn't live up to ym expectations. I pre-ordered this because it's a part of a franchise I'm in love with. I've loved Aliens for a long time, so why not? It's another medium to transfer content from a universe I like, so it's that. It's the same reason people see movies the day they come out. Going out to the movies is rediculously expensive, yet people do that, and I don't think I've heard of people complaining against that practice. I just sometimes think gamers think they are too entitled to what they purchase. Games are a priveledge, nothing more. Gaming industries owe us nothing besides what they provide.

The reason I'm as disappointed as I am, is because I love the universe so much. I wouldn't think of the game in such a way if it were a new ip, or something from I care a lot less about.

I think I've made my point. I wasn't looking to rile other's up, just sharing my opinion. You know, what the internet is for. Thankee sai

THQ went under and many other great gaming studios were gobbled up by EA. It is business. Just like in life shit happens in business. Sorry but I didnt see any logic behind bringing up THQ. From what I remember THQ was really heavy on pre-ordering Darksiders 2.

PC gamers are entitled to their money's worth. That is not the case here and so there is an uproar. Also PC gamers usually prefer to read reviews or get a general idea of the quality of the game. When a company intentionally inhibits gamers from this it is all the more an issue.

Your argument about people going to movies also doesnt stand much ground. Movie watching is usually a social thing - you drag friends with you. So, sometimes even the worst movies just like bad games turn into fun. A bad theater experience is a one time thing. A game is expected to have a extended life/replay value etc. You are stuck with your purchase and thus more is expected from it.

If you are okay with pre-ordering a game and are disappointed enough by it to the point where you would consider it a poor investment, then how does that not encourage the developer/publisher to just do the same thing again and again? Whether you realize it or not, by buying into this system you are creating a vicious cycle that not only hurts you by encouraging shady business practices, but all gamers in general, and could also end up damaging the industry as a whole in the long run.

tbh, i don't even pre-order anymore because I disagree with the practice of pre-order bonuses. Many times I have never bought a game post release because the pre-orders got a bonus I didn't get because I wanted reviews first. I don't want to play the lottery, I just want a good title to spend my money on.

Pre-ordering alone isn't pushing bad games out. Making a bad game is detrimental to the developer/publusher itself. Obviously there will be a lot less people even buying the next Aliens game, or Gearbox game. People aren't going to say, "oh, well this didn't work out last time, I'll try again!". Publishers damn themselves whenever they hype up their title and fail to deliver.

I started this thread in hopes of a civilized discussion about how we're disappointed with the game. Instead, I was greeted with people using it as an oppurtunity to rage about the "bad, bad AAA developer".

I can see how people disagree with pre-orders. I've never even pre-ordered before, but I was excited about an Aliens game with promise. I guess I'm the only one to have made a bad purchase :/

From what I've read, this seems to sum up the level of polish pretty well.

It looks like maybe this game could have used some more play testing and time with the developers... maybe.

Although, I must admit the "features" are pretty neat.
