Indie Games are games that are, in my opinion, developed and published by the same author(s). There is a lot of debate as to what defines a game as an "Indie Game", but that is my answer.

My definition is:
Any game that does not take publisher money upfront so that the creators can be artistic and free to make the type of game that they want. Indie Games can get publishers later on in the process, but they should not be answering to a publisher while they're making it.

When publishers are involved, this line gets very blurry. Games like Shank 2 (published by EA) and Bastion (published by WB) do not feel as indie (to me) as games like Fez or Kentucky Route Zero. Then again some games that do have publishers feel amazingly indie such as Unfinished Swan and Journey.

It`s supposed to be a joke but you could also go with - Desura- Indie; Steam- AAA and some Indie... which are not indie any longer
